Camping enthusiasts will tell you that nothing compares to the experience of sleeping under canvas. But what about eating under canvas? Visit The Yurt at Drove Orchards in Thornham, and you can judge for yourself.
A refreshingly different concept in eating out, The Yurt Thornham is a large, round tent with vertical walls and a conical roof. Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed with no urgency to hurry. Pedant lighting and an eclectic mix of textures create a vibe within that could be called ‘rustic coastal modern’ chic.
If you want to eat al fresco in the warmer months, outside seating is available too.
Chef Philip Milner has recently re-vamped the menu, which features fresh ideas and lots of locally-sourced ingredients, grown ‘close to home’. You’ll discover delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options as well as mouth-watering cakes and puddings. If it’s simply refreshment you’re after, The Yurt does a nice selection of coffees, teas and soft drinks (as well as beers, wines and spirits).
There are options for vegetarians, a children’s menu and regular events such as live music and Curry Nights.
Parking is free. Drove Orchards is just off the A149 coast road near Thornham village.
