Example of food and drink found at The Globe Inn.

Minutes from Wells beach and overlooking the village green, The Globe Inn is the perfect place to refresh and re-nourish after a hard day of building sandcastles, shopping in Wells or exploring the surrounding area.

Renovated in award-winning style by the Holkham estate in the summer of 2005, The Globe retains all the warmth of a traditional British pub, whilst radiating an unpretentious, easy kind of class at the same time.

Pop in for a pint (The Globe stocks a range of ales from local brewers Adnams and Woodfordes) and a light snack or bed in for the afternoon in the comfortable restaurant or sunny courtyard and enjoy a full-blown meal made up from the freshest seasonal local produce. The Globe describes its menu as “traditional modern British pub-food that reflects the area our young chefs live and work in”.

Children and those with special dietary requirements are catered for and there is a small dining room available for private parties up to 20 people.

Food is served from 12noon until 2.30pm and 6pm until 9pm (7pm-9pm during low and mid season), Monday to Sunday. The BBQ is available lunchtimes and evenings, weather permitting.

Inside The Yurt.

Camping enthusiasts will tell you that nothing compares to the experience of sleeping under canvas. But what about eating under canvas? Visit the new Yurt ‘Rustic Restaurant and Café’ at Drove Orchards in Thornham, and you can judge for yourself.

A totally unique concept in eating out, The Yurt is a large, round, semi-permanent tent with vertical walls and a conical roof. Inside you’ll find a gentle Turkish-cum-Moroccan style interior, with lamps, lanterns and low tables with reclined wicker chairs alongside more conventional blue wooden dining furniture. The atmosphere is ambient with peaceful music and no urgency to hurry. Think Very-VIP chill-out tent at Glastonbury. Imagine Kate Moss and cohorts. You get the idea.

In contrast to the décor, the menu is closer to home in its origin – delicious hot dishes, all day breakfasts and doorstep sandwiches, as well as mouth-watering cakes and puddings. Simple(ish) fare made from high quality local produce. If its simply refreshment you’re after, The Yurt does a nice selection of coffees, teas and soft drinks.

Open Mon-Weds 9am-5pm, Thurs-Sat 9am-5pm & 6pm-9pm, Sun 9am-5pm.

Excellent dining at The Neptune Restaurant, Old Hunstanton, North Norfolk.

Recipient of a coveted Michelin Star (one of only two Norfolk eateries to receive such an honour) The Neptune Restaurant at Old Hunstanton is exceptional on so many levels that it must be visited at least once when visiting the area. And if you are lucky enough to reside in Norfolk then this charming treasure is more than worth the journey.

The site of ‘The Rifleman’ in the 1780’s when it was used as a store for seized contraband, it has been known as The Neptune since the 19th century. Now under the careful ownership of Kevin and Jacki Mangoelles, the Restaurant with rooms has been transformed to evoke images of the New England coast of Maine – warm and friendly, but with a generous portion of outstanding quality.

With nautical themes throughout, brown mellow tones and white clapboard walls, The Neptune could easily be fragranced by either home-baked apple pie or salty sea air. The Lloyd Loom sofas and chairs add to the relaxed ambience of the bar, lounge and restaurant.

Under Head Chef Kevin (who also earned a Michelin star in his last restaurant on the Isle of Wight), the classic-modern food at The Neptune is lovingly created from fresh local produce such as Thornham Oysters and Plums from Orchard Farm. Already a prestigious 3 AA Rosette restaurant, The Neptune is a permanent 5 star fixture in the Good Food Guide.

Sunday lunch is available.

True to its origin as a coaching inn, The Neptune offers accommodation in 7 fabulous en-suite bedrooms, all furnished with the clean lines of white, hand made New England furniture.

Dinner served Tues – Sun 7pm-9pm.
Sunday lunch 12Noon – 1.30pm.
Lunch Tuesday – Friday by arrangement.
Closed Mondays.

The conservatory at The Lifeboat Thornham.

The 16th Century Lifeboat Inn at Thornham is a real North-Norfolk treasure in its stunning coastal location (even the car park has a breathtaking view out onto Holme Dunes).

In addition to the cosy oil-lantern lit bar and general ambience, that remains faithful to traditional inn-keeping values, The Lifeboat is a great place to eat all year round – particularly throughout the winter months when it really is an inviting and snug bolthole.

For summer dining, there is a lovely walled patio garden, and bright conservatory, the roof of which is covered by an ancient vine that apparently thrives on Abbot Ale. For evenings and special occasions, try the more formal dining room with its welcoming traditional décor and daily-changing one rosette standard menu (3 courses for £28.50). Year-round, the reasonably priced bar menu features local delights and daily specials and is very popular in the evenings. Children’s meals are available and there are options for vegetarians.

If you’ve tried the Lifeboat and want to experience something a little different, why not try its sister Inn – The Old Coach House, which is just down the road in Thornham. Serving pizza and Pasta in rustic, informal surroundings, it is perfect for everything from a romantic meal for two to a night out with the whole family.

Food is served at The Lifeboat at the following times:

Lunch everyday 12noon-2.30pm.

Afternoon Menu everyday 3pm-5.30pm.

Bar Menu & Specials Board Mon-Thurs 6.30pm-9.30pm, Fri, Sat & Sun 6pm-9.30pm.

Relaxed, contemporary dining at Butlers of Holt.

Located in the centre of the pretty market town of Holt, which is excellent for shopping or as a base to explore the surrounding area, Butlers is equally perfect for lunching during the daytime or for evening dining.

Opened in 2005, the family-run café-bar and restaurant has gone from strength to strength, and was recently awarded an AA Rosette for culinary excellence.

The open, airy restaurant bears hallmarks of a European brasserie, with a twist of rustic Norfolk charm. Secluded outside seating is excellent for al fresco dining on warmer days, while the inside with its sloping glass roof and large double doors offers perfect protection from autumn winds and chilly winter days, while still enabling diners to ‘experience the outside in’.

Experienced Chef and owner, Sean Creasey has created a modern European menu with a leaning towards the Italian. Seasonally influenced, ingredients are sourced wherever possible from good quality local suppliers. The menus change daily to offer the best and freshest produce.

For those who are simply looking for a break from work or shopping, Butlers café is serious about its coffee and, of course, delicious cakes. Free WIFI makes Butlers the perfect escape from the office or hotel room. The large oak bar that runs the length of the room serves a good selection of wines, beers and spirits throughout the day for those looking for something a little stronger.

Open Mon-Sat 8.30am-11pm.

Breakfast served 9am-11am.

Lunch served 12noon-3pm.

Restaurant at The Lodge Old Hunstanton.

Transformed by the owners of the warm and comfortable Briarfields Hotel, The Lodge is a delightful pub with a restaurant and rooms, of a quality usually only found at a stylish, designer inner-City hotel. A Dower House in the early 1800’s and The Lodge Hotel from 1912, the listed building offers a lovely mix of the old and the new, with wooden floors and real ales sitting happily alongside new world wines and the latest technology.

Situated in the attractive costal village of Old Hunstanton, The Lodge is only 400 hundred yards from quiet sandy beaches, and just along the road from some of Norfolk’s best golf courses, including Old Hunstanton and the Royal and West Norfolk at Brancaster.

The ground floor hosts a spacious open bar and lounge area (complete with oversized, flat-screen TV and comfy leather sofas) and a simple, contemporary-styled restaurant that serves the highest quality locally sourced ingredients in its selection of mouth-watering dishes.

Perfect as a base for exploring North Norfolk, or as a rest stop for lunch and refreshments, The Lodge offers a warm welcome all day and is well worth a visit to experience its laid-back charm and hospitality.

Illy coffee at the Garden Cafe at Cley Nurseries.

Set back on the road between Holt and Cley, Cley Nurseries and the on-site Garden Café is a delightful find if you’re looking for a peaceful experience on the North Norfolk coast.

For budding gardeners (pun intended), the family run nursery has a wide selection of plants and garden accessories, including over 40 varieties of roses and, in keeping with its Norfolk situation, a large selection of Lavenders. With plenty of advice on hand if you need it, why not treat your garden with a visit?

After browsing the nursery, or if you simply want to sit, reflect and relax, why not treat yourself with a visit to the Garden Café? Accessible to all with an available Stair Lift, the café is inviting and comfortable with a large picture window providing wonderful sea views.

The café serves Illy coffee, tea, light lunches, scones and cakes (we recommend you try the carrot cake – possibly the lightest, most moist carrot cake you’ll ever have the pleasure of sampling!).
