Situated on the A149 coast road at Brancaster Staithe, The Jolly Sailors is a long-established North Norfolk pub, updated by the same owners as the nearby White Horse. It offers great food and ales at good value prices and is very family friendly.
Housed in a white painted façade with blue door and windowsills that you can’t miss, the inside of The Jolly Sailors is rustic and warm, with plenty of wood and stone. It is also smart and cared-for, giving it an appealing vibe that elevates it to a higher-than-average-quality traditional eating pub.
The bar offers a wide selection of real ales and guest beers. Being the associated pub of the independent, family-owned Brancaster Brewery, The Jolly Sailors has many of this breweries’ ales on tap.
If ale isn’t your thing, there is a comprehensive wine list, with choices by the bottle and glass and there’s always a good cup of tea or coffee on the brew.
Outside is a large, leafy beer garden for warmer days with an adventure play area that would occupy even the most energetic child.
Food-wise, you’ll find home cooked pub food (including a plethora of local seafood) as well as delicious stone baked pizza (an unusual twist) that you can eat in or takeaway. Perfect if you’re holidaying nearby. There’s a Children’s Menu, a Daily Specials board and lighter options for lunch.
A sign outside reads “Children, muddy boots and dogs welcome” and this pretty much sums The Jolly Sailors up. Unpretentious and open to all, it has been providing warm hospitality to friends and strangers since the 18th Century. Still true to its traditional roots, it is also firmly 21st Century, focusing on good quality food, drink and service. Among other publications of note, The Jolly Sailors is featured in the Michelin Eating Out Pubs Guide 2011 and The Good Pub Guide 2011. Rightly so.

A former smugglers inn, The Anchor Inn Pub and Restaurant has received something of an update recently, after friends Rowan and Harry took the helm (apologies for the boat-related pun).
Good food, good beer and a friendly atmosphere ensure that everyone feels welcome, whether you simply want to sit and warm up with a pint beside the roaring fire in the ‘Old Pub’, or you are out with the family celebrating a special occasion with a meal in the contemporary and stylish new Restaurant.
Produce is sourced as locally as possible (very locally in the case of the Morston Mussels, which are available when in season and hail fresh from the Quay just yards away, while meat is supplied by award-winning Rutland Butchers) and Harry likes to experiment with well-loved pub classics, updating them with a modern twist. All dishes offer excellent value for money.
As you’d hope with its proximity to the coast, seafood and fish features heavily. However, vegetarians will not be left wanting and Children have a selection of their own dishes to choose from. There are tasty specials that change daily and The Anchor does a fabulous, traditional Sunday lunch.
Drinks-wise, The Anchor has an impressive selection of real ales, including a variety of local brews (for example Woodforde’s, Winters and Adnams). There is a well-balanced and competitively priced wine list that perfectly complements the food coming out of the kitchen.
Very recently, the Beer Garden has been revamped. Seating 30-40, it is a perfect little suntrap infused with the sea air on summer days.
As if the promise of great hospitality, food and beer weren’t enough, The Anchor is conveniently situated on the coast road, and the Coasthopper bus service stops right outside. The Inn is partnered with Temples Seal Trips, which operate from the Quay, taking trips to Blakeney Point to view the seals and migrant birds. Temple’s Seal Trip tickets can be purchased from the bar of The Anchor. That’s a fabulous day out in north Norfolk planned for you, right there. Marvellous.

Situated in Burnham Deepdale on the A149 coast road between Burnham Overy Staithe and Brancaster Staithe, among a well thought-out cluster of interesting businesses on the ‘Dalegate Market’ site, the Café is perfectly positioned for refreshment when exploring the North Norfolk coast or surrounding villages such as the Burnhams.
Cooked to order (no microwave!) from lots of lovely local produce, portions are reasonably priced and plentiful with satisfying and delicious options for breakfast, lunch and throughout the day (including veggie, children’s and gluten-free options). Relying on imaginative and well cooked food instead of fried grub and nutritionally void dishes, Deepdale Café supports healthier eating, without being preachy.
The carefully constructed menu includes sandwiches and snacks as well as more substantial meals, and there are lots of regularly changing Specials to choose from. If you can’t eat in, try the ‘Grab Food’ option – takeaway food prepared in the Café (a bit of Deepdale to take home or back to your holiday accommodation – marvellous). A ‘Grab Bag’ is ideal for taking along to the beach.
Fully licensed, you can relax with a local alcoholic tipple of Beer or Cider, or a refreshing glass of wine. For non-drinkers, children or drivers, the list of soft drinks is more than adequate, with various coffees, teas and juices on offer.

Found at Dalegate Market, immediately off the A149 coast road in the pretty North Norfolk village of Burnham Deepdale, Deepdale Visitor Information Centre is an excellent source of all sorts of useful information about the North Norfolk Coast and surrounding area.
Independently run by Deepdale Leisure (who also offer rather excellent backpacking and camping facilities), they are still part of the national network of Tourist Information Centres.
Inside, you’ll find hundreds of leaflets offering information and inspiration about oodles of things to do and places to visit in the area. There is also a large selection of maps, guidebooks and postcards on sale within.
Additionally, the staff at the Visitor Information Centre are always happy to answer your queries in person. Being well versed in all things Norfolk coast, and possessing that valuable local knowledge, they are an excellent resource themselves (and friendly with it!)
The Deepdale Visitor Information Centre also offers Internet access and a map/book ordering service.

Imagine a base from which to explore North Norfolk, situated within an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, just a stroll from the ocean and where you’ll sleep beneath some of the widest, darkest, most star-spangled skies around. No need to imagine – Deepdale Backpackers & Camping in the pretty little Coastal village of Burnham Deepdale is just such a place.
Deepdale 4-star (enjoyEngland) Backpackers Hostel is open all year round, providing award-winning accommodation in the form of ensuite private rooms, quad rooms, dorm rooms and family rooms. The Hostel buildings date back to the 17th Century and are centred around a partially covered old stable courtyard (with BBQ area, naturally). All bedding is provided, along with a fully equipped kitchen for self catering (though there are a number of fantastic food pubs close by, as well as the marvellous Deepdale Café), a laundry and sitting room (with woodburner for chilly winter evenings). A superior Hostel on every front, you can expect a stay here to be that little bit more comfortable than at your usual run-of-the-mill backpacker accommodation. For example, there is underfloor heating throughout, satellite TV in the lounge and Internet access. Perfect.
If camping is more your thing, Deepdale Camping is a quiet (there is a strict noise policy) family friendly campsite for tents and small campervans, situated on 5 well drained grass paddocks in the heart of Burnham Deepdale. Open all year, the site has modern, eco-friendly and clean shower, toilet and washing up facilities, as well as access to the laundry at the Hostel. A simple, but beautiful site (perfect for the purist camper), Deepdale Camping does not offer electrical hookups or allow generators. It welcomes well-behaved dogs, but is not suitable for large groups or caravans.
If you fancy sleeping outside bricks and mortar, but crave something slightly more exotic than a conventional tent, try Deepdale’s Tipis and Yurts. Offering a gorgeous and unforgettable experience, this is slightly more posh than regular camping (glamping, if you will). The authentic Sioux Native American style Tipis are roomy and romantic, with faux fur covered sleeping mat, a real fire in a cast iron chiminea for heat. Each has their own BBQ among other handy touches. Family friendly (sleeping up to 6), there is a dog-friendly Tipi as well.
The authentic Mongolian Yurts feature two double futons with mattresses, a wood burning stove, cushions and throw covers and a BBQ for outside cooking. They sleep a couple, family or small group (up to 8 people) comfortably, and there are 2 Dog friendly Yurts on site.
With so much going for it, we really cannot recommend Deepdale Backpacking & Camping highly enough. Our only word of warning – book well in advance. A destination such as this is popular and we’d hate for you to be disappointed…
The Lodge
Transformed by the owners of the luxe-for-less Briarfields Hotel, The Lodge is a delightful pub with a restaurant and rooms, of a quality usually only found at a stylish, designer inner-City hotel. A Dower House in the early 1800’s and The Lodge Hotel from 1912, the listed building offers a lovely mix of the old and the new, with wooden floors and real ales sitting happily alongside new world wines and the latest technology.

A 3-star, 2 AA Rosette Inn on the A149 coast road in Brancaster Staithe, The White Horse is undoubtedly one of the best places to dine or stay in the region.
It is located on an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), with some of the most stunning panoramic views across tidal marshes and sandy beaches that you’ll see anywhere in North Norfolk. Sunsets seen from The White Horse terrace (and rises as well if you’re an early bird) are truly dazzling.
A coastal pub built in 1934, The White Horse has been refurbished and tastefully styled with chic, modern décor that perfectly complements its seashore setting. Plenty of natural materials and nautical blues, greys and whites create a calm, welcoming environment.
The light, airy conservatory restaurant overlooks the Norfolk Coastal Path and the tidal marsh beyond to Scolt Head Island, offering sweeping views. If you want to dine al fresco, the restaurant leads to a sun deck terrace or there is a landscaped sunken garden.
Dining is an unhurried experience, intended to be savored. A range of tantalizing menus bursting with fresh, local cuisine (including oodles of seafood) offers something for all tastes (children and vegetarians are well served – see the KIDS MENU). When in season you’ll find Oysters and Asparagus farmed from Brancaster Staithe itself alongside the likes of Cromer Crab, Button Mushroom and Binham Blue Cheese Crepes and Pan roast Gressingham corn fed Chicken Breast.
The dessert selection is equally mouthwatering and there is an extensive wine list to accompany the great food.
The lunch menu consists of classic pub dishes such as Fish and Chips, Ploughman’s and salad as well as some rather fabulous Tapas options.

Despite its name, this former coaching inn on the North Norfolk coast is not all it seems… Multifaceted, this particular hostelry combines a charming country pub with a rather swish Italian restaurant and comfortable country inn accommodation.
The rooms have been simply and tastefully styled to enhance the natural charm of the building with reassuring warmth – perfect after a day of sightseeing, walking, cycling or splashing in the sea.
All rooms have double beds, some of which can be converted to offer twin accommodation, and a Family Room has a double bed with a set of bunks in an attached annex. A cot is available for very young guests.
In keeping with the welcoming allure of The Old Coach House (everyone seems welcome, and refreshingly, everyone seems accommodated), dogs are also welcome at a small supplement of £10 each.
To set you up for the day ahead, choose the hearty English breakfast or help yourself to the Breakfast Buffet.
For lunch or your evening meal, you don’t have to venture far either – The Old Coach House has two bars complete with sink-into-sofas and local ales and a bright, open restaurant offering homemade pies, pizza and pasta dishes.

If a great Café or Coffee Shop mean good coffee, a friendly, relaxing atmosphere and great cake to you (but no greasy fry ups!), then The Corner House Tea & Coffee Lounge in Mundesley is for you.
Opened in October 2011, The Corner House café is situated is situated near to the seafront in this lovely Norfolk seaside village (Mundesley has a great beach). Moreover it really serves as the heart of the village for social gatherings and passing the time of day.
Styling inside is eclectic with elements of rustic charm, French Café culture and a nod to tearooms of yesteryear with real tablecloths and china tableware, cake stands and pretty china teapots.
The Café serves various types of real coffee with authentic French flavouring syrups for a real continental twist. You’ll also find a vast choice of Teas (including Whittard flavoured and herbal teas), Hot Chocolate and refreshing cold soft drinks.
Sustenance-wise, The Corner House offers simple and imaginative breakfasts, snacks and light lunches such as Jacket Potatoes, Sandwiches and Soup, and mouthwatering cakes (during the summer, The Corner House will be offering ice-cream style cupcakes – delicious cupcakes served in a cone). Much is locally sourced or produced. We like the ‘Bronte Dunking Biscuits’ – how quintessentially English!
If you’re in need of real indulgence, treat yourself to Afternoon Tea or Cream Tea (with clotted cream, naturally).
As we’ve already mentioned, The Corner House is friendly and welcoming to all. There are provisions for children and dogs are also welcome. A sign on the dresser reads ‘Enter as strangers. Leave as friends’ and this basically sums up The Corner House Tea & Coffee Lounge. (Although perhaps it should read ‘well fed and watered friends’, to be absolutely accurate).

Conveniently located on the A149 coast road in the pretty village of Titchwell, and with prestigious 3-Star Silver (Visit Britain) status, Briarfields Hotel is a warm and welcoming place to stay in North Norfolk. Made up of a collection of sympathetically converted barns and farm buildings, it offers a relaxed and cosy atmosphere that is perfect for helping you settle in to holiday mode, or to escape for a short getaway.
All rooms are en-suite and the homely traditional decor is brought bang up to date with flat screen televisions, luxurious four-poster beds and heated towel rails, offering you the best of both worlds. Family-friendly (check out the impressive play area to the rear), there are 4 family rooms that comprise a second bedroom adjacent to the main bedroom – perfect for keeping an eye on the little ones.
The hotel has a wonderful restaurant that serves the finest locally sourced produce at lunchtimes and dinner time and there is a large bar and lounge area if you fancy kicking back and relaxing with a newspaper and a drink.
For the more adventurous, Briarfields makes the perfect base for exploring the delights of the surrounding area, including Titchwell Marsh Nature Reserve (which the hotel overlooks).
Aside from all this, one of the biggest surprises about Briarfields is that it is so reasonably priced. In keeping with their aim to remain accessible to all, room rates start at £125 for a double room, bed and breakfast in high season and £100 in low season. Dogs are welcome at a nominal charge of £8 per night and a discount can be arranged for groups of 10 or more.
As well as being perfect for a romantic retreat or a family adventure, Briarfields is also available for weddings, conferences and other functions and events.

Follow the A149 coast road out of Cromer and you’ll pass East Runton Fish & Chip Shop. Obviously, this would be a terrible shame, given that these are some of the best fish’n’chips you’ll find in North Norfolk.
At East Runton Fish & Chip Shop you’ll find all the usual favourites – cod, haddock, plaice, rock, scampi, sausages, pies and burgers. This is a traditional seaside chippy – no pretensions or bells and whistles, just high quality, honest fish & chips done very well and delivered with an obvious passion.
There are a few subtle nuances that distinguish this chip shop from similar establishments. For example, owner Will Watson makes his own homemade Tartare Sauce, and every fish is served with a slice of fresh lemon. Lovely.
East Runton Fish & Chip Shop is a Registered Member of the National Federation of Fish Friers as well as holding a 5* (Excellent) rating for Food Hygiene.
An essential ingredient for any holiday on the Norfolk coast, or simply a great end to a day out at the beach, this is one North Norfolk chip shop that is well worth seeking out.

The White House is located in the pretty coastal village of Burnham Overy Town. Burnham Overy lies only 1 mile from North-Norfolk-retreat-for-the-rich-and-famous, Burnham Market, 2 miles from beautiful Holkham and 1 mile from Burnham Thorpe, birthplace of Lord Nelson.
A stunning and spacious 250-year-old house, with original features, including exposed beams throughout, you couldn’t ask for a better base for your break in North Norfolk. Sleeping up to 8 people, and welcoming dogs, it is perfect for both smaller groups and family getaways.
The ground floor features an open kitchen/dining room, two sitting rooms – one with a wood burner, one with a large LCD TV and DVD player, books and games (perfect if you’re travelling with children – one room for them, one for you!), a twin bedroom, a shower room and a small utility room.

Heacham Manor Golf Course

Heacham Manor is the only hotel on the North Norfolk Coast with an 18-hole Championship Golf Course. Set within an area of Important Landscape Quality, the vista to be enjoyed here is as good as the golf.
Wonderfully, this new course offers a mix of two distinct characters born from its natural topography. It begins in a parkland style playing up Redgate Hill through established and newly planted trees and soon changes to more of a links style with greater mounding, more shrub planting and raised undulating greens adding to the challenge.
The front nine remains predominately links style with three large lakes to negotiate. The first and second lakes are linked by a winding stream fed from a weir that protects the front of the short par 3 fifth hole. The third and largest lake provides the setting for the signature 7th hole. Also a par 3, the hole requires a well struck shot to carry the 100 yards of water fronting the green.
The next few holes return to a parkland setting with excellent views of The Wash afforded from the 14th tee. The eleventh also incorporates the large lake, which challenges you to take on the green with your second shot.
The 15th plays from an elevated tee down towards the Hotel and in full view of the Lounge Patio and conservatory.
The final 3 holes cross the Heacham River providing a good test at the end of the round. The 18th hole is a reachable par 5, but beware the Ringstead River on the left waiting to catch any errant approaches.
The Course is designed for players of all standards, with the introduction of 5 sets of tee positions. The championship tee will play a course over 7,000 yards whereas the blue junior tees will measure around 5,700 yards.
Looking to brush up or improve? The PGA Professional Ray Stocker is available for individual lessons or golf tuition breaks.
For the future, plans are underway to construct a Heacham Manor Golf Clubhouse and Conference Suite, which will overlook the 18th green and provide further exceptional facilities for players pre and post round.
