As the name suggests, the building was formerly the Mayoral Residence in Cley. It features three gorgeously styled en-suite rooms: The Star Room (a King-sized double which looks out on to Cley Marshes), The Globe Room (also a King) and The Heart Room (a Super-King sized double). All are decorated and furnished to a standard comparable to that found in any top class luxury accommodation. Silent mini-fridges provide fresh milk for your tea or coffee, bathrobes and handmade toiletries make for shower time bliss and a tasty little ‘treat’ such as cake or delicious biscuits are placed in the rooms everyday to maintain a high level of pleasure.

Muted tones of pale peach, white and cream soothe the senses, creating an air of calm throughout. This atmosphere of tranquillity and relaxation is further sustained by the brave move to avoid an excess of modern technology in the guest rooms. Televisions and WI-FI are replaced by radios and since the mobile signal in Cley is virtually non-existent, temptation to connect with the office is already removed.

Fear not those among you who feel lost without your ‘Blackberry’ - Cley and the surrounding area has more than enough to occupy you, no matter what sort of holiday you have in mind. Cley-next-the-Sea itself is a pretty, unspoilt coastal village that sits on the River Glaven (within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The A149 coast road weaves through Cley. This and the fact that it is virtually single-file traffic most of the time prevents anyone from exhibiting much speed through the village. Cley (‘pronounced ‘Cly’) has a handful of delightful shops (including an art gallery and an award-winning delicatessen), a pub and hotel that both serve food, a café and a very nice garden centre within strolling distance. A little further still (but not that far) you’ll find the villages of Wiveton and Blakeney. Both have excellent places to eat and drink and can be reached on foot from Old Town Hall House. With only a short car ride, you have access to all the delights of North Norfolk, making Old Town Hall House an ideal base for exploring this diverse and wonderful region.

The immediate area is extremely popular with birdwatchers and walkers - Cley is an excellent site for seeing rare birds due to its location and habitats.

To set you up for all the shopping, sightseeing or twitching that you might be planning to do, owners Louise and Fraser really know how to put the ‘breakfast’ in “Bed and Breakfast”. Recipient of the prestigious AA Breakfast Award, breakfast at Old Town Hall House is a relaxed, but special affair, including homemade bread and preserves. Cooked options such as French Style Omelette, Kedgeree with Locally Smoked Haddock and of course favourites like the Full English and the Classic Bacon Butty sit alongside options such as a Continental Breakfast Basket, Stewed Rhubarb with Brulee Topping and Apricot Fool with Fruit Garnish. Most ingredients are sourced locally and the food is organic wherever possible. The breakfast room itself is elegant and airy, with a full compliment of ‘proper’ tableware, including crisp white cotton tablecloths and napkins, stylish lighting and subtle decor.
