Only three miles from the seaside resort of Cromer, this long-standing village Ale House, whose name nods to the foundry for which Northrepps was once famed, offers a wonderful ‘proper traditional pub’ experience.
Reopened in 2006 as a family-run freehouse, The Foundry Arms offers everything you’d expect and more from an unspoilt Norfolk local. It has two bars, a dining room and a games room (complete with Pool table and dartboard). In the winter, a wood-burning stove inspires a festive, welcoming glow inside, while a small beer garden is just the job for the summer months.
The Foundry Arms serves very good food throughout the week, which you can choose to take in the cosy bar area or the dining room that has more of a ‘country restaurant’ feel to it. There is a light lunch menu featuring old favourites like Jacket Potatoes, Sandwiches and Baguettes (great if you’re stopping by mid-ramble), a main menu which has wholesome traditional pub grub such as Steak and Chips, Steak and Kidney Pudding (a rare find these days) and Sausage and Mash, and a daily specials board. All food is freshly prepared from the finest local produce and children, vegetarians and those with special dietary requirements are not left hungry.
A comprehensive wine list and well-stocked bar, plus homemade sweets finish off any meal perfectly.
