The Pigs is a pub-based dining experience quite unlike any other and well worth taking the trip for.
Located in Edgefield off the B1149 Holt road, in certain lights it more than resembles an American-style ranch, with rustic wooden features that are complimented by traditional elements that could only be English (for example, the bar billiards and dominoes).
The food is traditional in style and wholesome, made with the best locally sourced ingredients and all freshly prepared on the premises – the perfect formula for leaving you well fed and satisfied. Dishes that have long since been abandoned by other eateries such as Beef Dripping on toast, Cockie Leekie, Game Cobbler, Vegetable Crumble and warm ginger Parkin have been lovingly resurrected using the finest ingredients, in keeping with The Pigs belief in supplying real tasty food.
While the décor may be warm and evocative of good country living, The Pigs philosophy is firmly 21st century. Children are made welcome with a Piglets Menu and a dedicated playroom (The Pig Sty) that was designed by kids with kids in mind.
There are no packets of nuts or crisps at the bar of The Pigs – instead, you can enjoy Norfolk ‘Iffits’ – ‘If It’s in Season, It’s on the Menu’. Much more interesting (and probably better for you) this selection includes delights such as salted broad beans, vanilla dusted seeds and the Pigs own spicy sweet nut mix.
For those with an incurable sweet tooth – The Sunday Lunch Pudding Club Table is what you’ve been waiting for. £6.95 per person and you can visit as often as you like – a ‘dessert buffet’, if you will.
