The Pigs describes itself as a ‘traditional bar with continental leanings’. Not a place to stand on ceremony, it is the perfect haunt for relaxing, catching up with friends or whiling away hours by indulging in a variety of bar sports.
Located in Edgefield off the B1149 Holt road, in certain lights it more than resembles an American-style ranch, with rustic wooden features that are complimented by traditional elements that could only be English (for example, the bar billiards and dominoes).
Although relaxed in most other ways, The Pigs is serious about good, tasty food and equally excellent drinking. The beers on offer range from the local microbrewery produce of Peter Yetman, to other local classics from Woodforde’s and Adnams, to continental beers such as Hoegarden and Leffe. If beers aren’t your thing, The Pigs has an impressive selection of wines, coffees, teas and soft drinks for the piglets or those that choose to drive.
The Pigs bar is a bit like a big playroom for adults and while you enjoy your tipple, why not try your hand at their assortment of traditional (and surprisingly fun – just see how competitive bar billiards gets after a few pints!) bar sports, including dice, darts and cribbage. If you start getting good and want to pit your newly honed skills against others, every Thursday night from 8pm is good old-fashioned Games Night. A nice change from endless reality shows on TV!
There are no packets of processed nuts or crisps at the bar of The Pigs – instead, you can enjoy Norfolk ‘Iffits’ – ‘If It’s in Season, It’s on the Menu’. Much more interesting (and probably better for you) this selection includes delights such as salted broad beans, vanilla dusted seeds and the Pigs own spicy sweet nut mix.
